Construction

patterns · arithmetic sequences and number patterns

Generate and extend number patterns from a problem-solving context [5.PR(P).4].

Construction is a number-pattern card game for Grades 6–8 built around arithmetic sequences. A starting card sets the first term and a four-sided die determines the constant increment. Players can discard cards only when their values fit the growing pattern, so they must extend the sequence and recognize which numbers belong next.

Use it for partner work when students are exploring increasing patterns and constant differences. The game naturally invites questions such as how to predict later terms and why some cards can never fit a particular sequence.
