DIFFERENCE DUEL is a subtraction card game for Grades 2–5 where the lowest difference wins the round. Each player flips two cards, subtracts the smaller value from the larger, and compares the resulting differences. The unusual goal of getting a small difference encourages students to notice how close two numbers are, not just compute mechanically.
Use it for partner fluency practice and adjust the card set to match the numbers your students are ready for.
