Entrapment
geometry · transformations: translations, rotations, and reflections
Recognize motion as a slide (translation), turn (rotation) or a flip (reflection) [5.SS(T).20].
Entrapment is a geometry game for Grades 6–8 that makes transformations part of the decision-making. Players roll for a shape, place it in an available space on the board, and identify whether the placement requires a translation, rotation, or reflection compared with the reference shapes. As the board fills, students have fewer options and must think carefully about both fit and transformation.
Use it in a small group when you want transformation vocabulary tied to visual-spatial reasoning rather than isolated definitions. Students can explain why a shape was slid, turned, or flipped and compare different valid placements. Create a free Find a Math Game account to generate the lesson for Entrapment.
