EXPRESSION CHALLENGE

EXPRESSION CHALLENGE is a Grade 5 team game for writing numerical expressions with addition. A dice product becomes the target number, and teams search their cards for ways to create three different addition expressions with that same sum. The target changes each round, so students repeatedly compose a number in multiple ways rather than writing a single expression and moving on.

Use it in a small group or team setting when students are learning that different expressions can represent the same value. Comparing three solutions for one target naturally supports discussion about equivalence and efficient combinations.
