Find the Longest Piece

Find the Longest Piece is a Grade 2 measurement challenge built from paper strips of different lengths and angles. Small groups receive an envelope of pieces and race to measure them accurately enough to identify the longest one. Since the lines and cuts are not all horizontal or vertical, students have to pay attention to the actual length rather than relying on how a piece is positioned.

Use it for hands-on measurement practice when students are learning to compare lengths with a ruler.
