Fraction and Ratio is a Grade 6 whole-class activity for helping students distinguish and write ratios in multiple forms. Using pictures, classroom objects, and students themselves, the class describes relationships such as pigs to foxes or boys to girls as words, fractions, and colon notation. Reversing the order makes the effect of ratio language especially visible.

Use it to introduce ratio notation or to slow students down when they are treating order as unimportant.
