Fraction SpeedWay
fractions · identifying equivalent fractions
Students will use their math skills and a little bit of luck to win each game by identifying equivalent fractions.
Fraction SpeedWay is a Grade 4 board game for identifying equivalent fractions. Players spin, then move to the next fraction on the racetrack that is equivalent to the value they need. An incorrect choice sends the player back and costs a turn, so students must verify equivalence rather than simply moving as far as possible.
Use it in a small group when students need visual, repeated practice with numerator-and-denominator relationships. Players check one another’s moves, which creates natural opportunities to explain how both parts of an equivalent fraction change.
