Fraction Switch

fractions · comparing and ordering proper fractions

Compare and/or order proper fractions and decimals to hundredths [5.N(NC).9].

Fraction Switch is a strategy card game for Grades 6–8 that combines building, comparing, and ordering proper fractions. Players begin with six cards arranged as three fractions, then draw and swap one card at a time while trying to create three proper fractions ordered from least to greatest. Every exchange can improve one fraction while changing its position relative to the others.

Use it for partner work when you want fraction comparison to require planning rather than a single isolated decision. Students have to monitor numerator-denominator relationships and the order of all three values at once. Generate lesson support for Fraction Switch with a free account. No credit card is required, and the free plan includes 3 lesson generations for life.
