Hopscotch
measurement · selecting appropriate customary and metric units
To identify which customary or metric unit is appropriate [4.MD.A.1].
Hopscotch is a Grade 4 measurement game for choosing appropriate customary or metric units. As players move along a hopscotch-style board, they draw cards describing objects and decide which unit best fits the measurement situation. Some spaces require more than one card, so students must apply unit sense repeatedly rather than simply naming units from memory.
Use it for partner review when students are learning to distinguish reasonable units for length, weight, volume, area, or related measurements. Ask students to explain why one unit is more sensible than another before checking the card. Create a free Find a Math Game account to generate lesson support for Hopscotch.
