Integer Addition is a card game for Grades 6–8 that represents black cards as positive values and red cards as negative values. Players build a hand over several turns, continually adding the signed values they keep and deciding whether a newly drawn card will help or hurt the total. The keep-or-discard decision makes students evaluate the effect of positive and negative numbers instead of simply performing isolated sums.
Use it in a small group when students are building fluency with integer addition and additive inverses.
