Integer Showdown: Addition War

integers · adding positive and negative integers

A fast-paced card game to master adding positive and negative numbers

Integer Showdown: Addition War is a fast card game for Grades 5–8 that combines integer addition with comparison. Each player flips two cards, treats black values as positive and red values as negative, and adds the pair. The player with the greater sum collects the cards, so students must calculate signed totals and compare them correctly on every round.

Use it for partner or small-group practice when students are building speed and confidence with positive and negative sums. Ties create a War round that extends the running calculation and gives students another chance to reason with signed numbers.
