Let’s Go Shopping Part 2
equations · Budgeting with expressions and money
Let’s Go Shopping Part 2 extends the Grade 6 expression work into a budgeting challenge. Student pairs receive a fixed amount of play money and try to choose at least four different items while spending as much of the budget as possible without going over. Once the purchases are chosen, students write one expression to represent the order and substitute the prices to verify the total.
Use it for partner work when students are ready to combine algebraic expressions with real-world budgeting decisions. The goal of minimizing leftover money encourages estimation before students calculate exactly.
