Math Expression War

Math Expression War is a Grade 5 card game that challenges students to create the greatest possible value from four cards. Each player must use every card exactly once and may combine addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and parentheses to build one numerical expression. Because the goal is to maximize the result, students experiment with operation order rather than following a fixed calculation.

Use it for partner or small-group work when students are practicing numerical expressions and order of operations. Comparing two different expressions from the same cards can lead to strong discussion about why one arrangement produces a larger value.
