Measuring a Friend
measurement · measuring body lengths and comparing measurements
Measuring a Friend is a Grade 2 hands-on activity where students estimate, measure, and compare body lengths. In groups of three, students measure features such as arms, legs, ears, and total height, recording each measurement before comparing results with classmates. The familiar subject matter gives students repeated practice using length tools on objects that are not all the same size.
Use it in a small group when students are learning to measure accurately and compare differences in length. Beginning with predictions gives you a chance to discuss reasonable estimates before students collect the actual measurements.
