Meter Measurement Game

Meter Measurement Game is a Grade 2 group activity that combines estimation, measurement, and addition of lengths. Students identify three classroom objects they predict will total about one meter, measure each item with a meter stick, and add the lengths to see how close their combined estimate was. The target of exactly one meter gives the measuring work a clear goal.

Use it in small groups when students are developing a sense of metric length and learning to estimate before measuring.
