Moving Up

Moving Up is a Kindergarten counting game focused on counting forward from a given number up to 20. Students work in teams, read a counting prompt from a card, and pass the question down the line as each teammate answers and records a response. The relay format gives several children repeated opportunities to continue a count without always starting at one.

Use it in a small group when students are learning to count on from a number they hear or see. Because teams exchange cards for checking, the activity also gives teachers a clear record of which counting sequences caused difficulty.
