Not So Common Multiples

multiplication · factors and multiples · common multiples and least common multiples

Recognize, model, identify, find and describe common multiples, common factors, LCM, GCF [6.N(NC).4].

Not So Common Multiples is a card game for Grades 6–8 focused on common multiples and least common multiple thinking. Three cards are added to create a target number, and players build a collection of cards whose total is a multiple of that target—at least twice as large. The draw-and-discard choices make students think about which card values move their running total toward a useful multiple.

Use it in a small group when students are studying multiples, factors, and LCM. Requiring the winner to prove the total is a multiple keeps the final claim mathematical rather than strategic only.
