Number Patterns

Number Patterns is a visual number-sense routine for Kindergarten through Grade 4 that uses playing-card dot arrangements rather than printed numerals. Students first identify single card quantities, then combine two cards with addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division as they are ready. The same cards can also become digits for building the greatest or least possible number.

Use it as a whole-class warm-up when you want quick quantity recognition to grow into mental computation and place-value reasoning. Because the cards are flashed briefly, students are encouraged to recognize patterns rather than count every symbol one by one.
