Shade to Show

Shade to Show is a Grade 5 visual decimal-and-fraction activity where students answer a card and shade a grid to represent the value. Points are awarded separately for a correct numerical answer and a correct model, so students must connect symbols with a picture rather than rely on computation alone. The grid representation makes tenths and hundredths especially visible.

Use it for partner work when students are relating decimals and fractions to area models.
