SKUNK

probability · risk, reward, and probability with dice

Teach concepts like probability and chance through a low-prep dice game involving risk and reward.

SKUNK is a probability-and-risk dice game for Grades 4–8. In each lettered round, students decide whether to stop and keep their points or roll again for a larger total. A single 1 wipes out the round, while double 1s erase all accumulated points, so every decision weighs potential reward against the chance of losing what has already been earned.

Use it in a small group when students are discussing probability, risk, and decision making. Playing again after calculating the chances of rolling one or two 1s gives students a chance to see whether better probability reasoning changes their strategy.
