SORT PLEASE!

data · sorting data into Venn diagrams

To sort data into a Venn diagram [1.MD.C.4].

SORT PLEASE! is a Grade 1 data game where students sort playing cards into Venn diagrams. A die determines which Venn board a player will use, then the player flips cards one at a time and places each card in the correct region based on the board’s conditions. The changing boards give students repeated practice deciding which attributes matter for a sort.

Use it in a small group when students are learning to organize data and interpret overlapping categories. Ask students to explain why a card belongs in one region instead of another before the sort is checked. Create a free Find a Math Game account to generate teacher-ready lesson support for SORT PLEASE! No credit card is required, and the free account includes 3 lesson generations for life.
