SPIN A SIGN

mixed operations · adding and subtracting numbers up to 100

To add and subtract numbers up to 100

SPIN A SIGN is a Grade 2 mixed-operations game for adding and subtracting numbers up to 100. On each turn, a player chooses a problem circle, spins to determine whether the numbers will be added or subtracted, and then completes the equation. Because the operation is not known until after the numbers are chosen, students must be ready to work flexibly with either operation.

Use it for small-group review when students are practicing addition and subtraction within 100. The same number pair can produce a very different result depending on the spinner, which makes the relationship between the operations easier to discuss.
