Spinners, Spinners, Spinners Part 2

probability · creating spinner probability models

Create spinners with specified probabilities and compare multiple correct designs.

Spinners, Spinners, Spinners Part 2 is a Grade 7 probability design challenge where students work backward from a required probability. They create spinner models in which blue has probabilities such as 1/6, 1/10, or 3/4, then tackle combined-color conditions such as blue or yellow totaling 1/6. More than one spinner can satisfy each condition, so students must justify why their design works.

Use it after students understand how spinner area represents probability. The combined-color challenges are especially useful for introducing the addition rule in a visual way.
