Square-Inch-By-Square-Inch
measurement · area using square inches and fractional area
Square-Inch-By-Square-Inch is a Grade 3 area game where each player works inside an 8-by-10-inch rectangle. Players turn over area cards and shade the indicated amount on their paper, gradually filling the rectangle until one player has covered the whole region. The repeated shading links numerical area amounts to the actual number of square inches used.
Use it for partner or small-group practice when students are learning to measure area in square inches. The paper model also supports discussion of fractional square units when a card does not correspond to whole-square coverage.
