Square Shoot-Out
geometry · area and perimeter of rectangles
To calculate the perimeter and area of a rectangle [7.G.B.6].
Square Shoot-Out is a Grade 7 geometry game where dice generate the length and width of rectangles on a 30-by-30 battlefield grid. Players draw and shade each rectangle without overlapping previous shapes, trying to claim as much space as possible. When the board can no longer fit the rolled rectangles, students calculate the area and perimeter of their claimed shapes.
Use it for small-group review when students are working with rectangle area, perimeter, and spatial planning. The shared grid gives students a reason to think about dimensions before drawing, not just after. Create a free Find a Math Game account to generate teacher-ready lesson support for Square Shoot-Out.
