Swap Meet
patterns · arithmetic sequences and growing patterns
Construct and expand patterns in two and three dimensions, concretely and pictorially [5.PR(P).3].
Swap Meet is a Grades 4–5 pattern game built around the growing sequence 1, 3, 5, 7, and beyond. Players roll a die and either add that many tiles to their own columns or remove tiles from an opponent’s incomplete column. Completed columns are protected, so students are balancing the structure of the pattern with a strategic choice about where to place or remove tiles.
Use it in a small group when students are constructing growing patterns and connecting term number with the number of tiles required. The physical columns make the arithmetic sequence visible.
