Switch

integers · comparing and ordering integers

Compare and order integers [7.N(C)-12].

Switch is an integer-ordering card game for Grades 6–8. Red cards represent negative values and black cards represent positive values; each player begins with six face-up cards in the order dealt. On a turn, a player draws or takes a discard and may swap it with one of the six cards, trying to improve the arrangement of the row.

Use it for partner or small-group practice when students are comparing and ordering integers. Because a new card may be helpful in one position but not another, students must think about relative size across the whole row rather than compare only one pair.
