SWITCH SWITCH

integers · Comparing and ordering integers from least to greatest

Compare and order integers [7.N(NC).12].

SWITCH SWITCH is a Grade 6 integer card game for arranging signed numbers from least to greatest. Red cards represent negative values and black cards represent positive values, and players begin with six face-up cards in a row. Each turn offers a chance to replace one card with a new draw or discard, gradually improving the order of the six values.

Use it in a small group when students are learning that negative numbers reverse familiar whole-number comparisons. The row format makes the complete order visible and gives students a reason to consider where each new value belongs.
