The Area Race

geometry · areas of trapezoids, squares, triangles, and rectangles

To solve areas of trapezoids, squares, triangles and rectangles [7.G.B.6].

The Area Race is a Grade 7 geometry board game for calculating areas of rectangles, triangles, squares, and trapezoids. A die moves the counter to a color-coded shape, and playing cards generate the dimensions needed for that figure. Correct area calculations let the player keep the new position, while incorrect work sends the counter back.

Use it in a small group when students are reviewing several area formulas in the same session. Since the shape changes by landing space, students must identify the correct formula before substituting the card values.
