What’s this Sentence Worth? Part 2
integers · Creating sentences with target integer values
What’s this Sentence Worth? Part 2 turns the Grade 7 letter-value code into a target-number challenge. Small groups receive a target integer and compete to create a sentence or phrase whose letter values add exactly to that total. A second challenge asks students to write a pangram containing every letter of the alphabet and then calculate its value.
Use it when students are comfortable adding signed integers and are ready to work backward from a target. Designing a phrase with a required total makes students think strategically about positive and negative contributions.
